When you talk about being a survivalist, most people thing of right wing nutcases or religious wackos.
The common ones that come to mind are the Oklahoma City bomber (Timothy McVeigh) or the
Branch Davidians at Waco, Texas (David Koresh).

Whether you agree with their religious views or not, the Mormons seem to be going
about things the right way when it comes to emergency preparedness. It is part of
their religion to have a one year supply of food and essentials. I wouldn’t be quite
so worried about a disaster or tough times quite so much if I was that prepared.

If you are self-reliant, it doesn’t mean that you have to be part of a group. All
you have to do is start preparing and taking precautions on your own at home.
Nobody has to know but your family.

Why are “survivalists” looked
upon with scorn? I’m not sure,
but I think it has something
to do with the fact that people
know they should prepare, but don’t.
You can learn survival skills as a
Boy Scout, and have fun doing it.
